A NEW ZEALAND GOLF NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Overview

The Regal Salmon New Zealand Women’s Individual Masters Championship was an inaugural event in 2008 with a sell-out field and a huge waiting listing. The aim was to provide a championship for all women amateur golfers, aged 35 plus. It is supported by the national amateur body of New Zealand, New Zealand Golf Inc. Dates for the 2009 event have now been scheduled and we invite all women golfers with an affiliated handicap, over the age of 35 as at the first day of the tournament to enter.

The tournament is an individual gross championship, over 54 holes, split by age group with prizes also for net and stableford. All interested players are invited to enter as soon as is possible to avoid disappointment at missing a spot in the field. The tournament field is restricted to the first 100 paid entries received.

VENUE

Wairakei International Golf Course has been selected as the host course for this event for the second year. The course is arguably one of the very best in New Zealand offering spectacular scenery with a challenging layout and design.  Wairakei International Golf Course was rated by the prestigious US Golf Digest magazine to be in the top 100 courses in the world outside of the USA in 2005.

Wairakei is located in the heart of the North Island and is set amongst the spectacular scenery of the Lake Taupo region. Designed by Commander John Harris, Michael Wolveridge and Peter Thompson with the aim of producing New Zealand's first internationally recognised golf course, there is little doubt in any New Zealanders mind that this trio exceeded all expectations.  The end result is a course that sprawls over 450 acres of natural wooded countryside.  This coupled with the 6444 metres from the championship tees and 108 large well placed bunkers has lead to worldwide acclaim.

Tournament Format

The tournament is a 54 hole Championship with 27 holes to be played on Monday 9th March and 27 holes on Tuesday 10th March 2009.   The draw for Monday will be seeded against handicap as at entry and by age group. The draw for Tuesday will be seeded by results after the first day’s play. Players will compete in age groups 35 – 45 years, 46 – 55 years, 56 – 65 years and 66 plus. Depending on entries, tournament organisers may choose to introduce a special 80 years plus division.

Players will compete for gross, net and stableford categories in their age group, and for the overall Masters Championship Gross, Net and Stableford New Zealand Golf National Trophies. Carts will be available for all players – on a shared basis.
